Hair Replacement Technology

Human Hair Hair Systems

The London Hair Clinic is at the forefront of hair replacement technology, even as hair replacement technology continues to develop rapidly. All aspects of the creation process from membrane construction to knotting techniques continue to develop to create the most natural looking hair replacement solutions.

Bespoke hair systems produce a perfect replication of an individuals scalp. Out latest technology in scalp replication involves producing a mould using a plastic derivative which is shaped to create a template. The moulds are non-intrusive. The plastic sheet is heated to a malleable state, and then used to create an impression of the area where the hair needs to be replaced. The plastic takes on the contours of a persons head perfectly, allowing a system to be built specifically around each person. This ensures that the piece is comfortable and sits naturally atop a persons head.

Before these plastic moulds were available cling film moulds had to be taken. This was a far longer procedure (and a far messier one to) with less precise results.

Technological advancement continues to push the barriers of membrane design. There is an ever widening selection of materials to be used in the formation of hair system bases. Where once choice was limited, now each individual can select the material most suited to them.

Transparent and lightweight materials which enable scalp visibility. Lace, silicone, polyurethane or polygauze are the most commonly used materials. These bases are hypoallergenic, meaning that they are far less likely to cause allergic reactions in the wearers.

The hair can then be attached to the hair system base via a number of different techniques. Hair knotting has been shown to provide the most aesthetically pleasing results as well as natural performance. The tiny, undetectable knots are extremely strong, so the system lasts. Hair knotting is a labour intensive hand skill whereby hairs are tied to the base. The Single-Hair, Single-Knot technique is used by The London Hair Clinic as it is the most undetectable, despite being one of the most complicated and time consuming methods.

The London Hair Clinic also use hair injection, which is a much newer method of hair attachment, whereby the hairs are inserted through the polyurethane layer before being sealed with a layer of liquid polyurethane, trapping the hair between the two transparent layers.

Both single knotting and hair injection provide totally undetectable results with scalp visibility to ensure a natural-looking finish.

Synthetic hair has become more and more natural in appearance and texture, so where once it was unthinkable that synthetic hair could ever be mistaken for natural hair, it is not possible to create a synthetic hair system that rivals real human hair in appearance. The two best synthetic hair fibres are Cyberhair and Kanekalon. Both materials replicate human hair both in look and texture, and both materials are highly durable.

Another advancement The London Hair Clinic has made is in the way we source our human hair for out bespoke hair pieces. We purchase high quality European hair from individuals across the UK & Europe, through our unique 'Hair Harvest' procedure and keep a library of hair to select for our bespoke hair systems.
